“You killed my girl!” roars Luigi. He lunges at you, screaming. “I’m gonna murder you dead!”
O’Sullivan steps in. “Back off, Luigi,” he says, brandishing his gun.
Frustrated, Luigi punches the glass panel in your door. Great. Something else to take care of, if you live through this. The broken office door swings open to reveal Vinnie Valachi, Mickey’s second-in-command. “What are you doing here?” shouts Luigi.
Vinnie shrugs. “You told me to explain to the detective about where people shouldn’t stick their noses if they want to keep them.”
“I told you to talk to him last night,” Luigi growls.
“I couldn’t last night,” says Vinnie. “I had to oversee the unloading of ciga… I mean, merchandise at the docks.”
O’Sullivan interrupts, turning to you. “I’m thinking this case is open and shut: you tried to blackmail Mickey with photos proving he was cheating with Luigi’s girl…”
“I’m gonna kill Mickey again!” shouts Luigi.
“…and skimming money behind Luigi’s back. Mickey came with Angelica to your office this morning to square up, but things went south.”
O’Sullivan must know this isn’t the case. The broken watch on Mickey’s wrist, smashed when he hit the floor, suggests that he was killed at 11:13… O’Sullivan is just trying to save his own skin by making you take the rap.
O’Sullivan picks up Angelica’s purse. Luigi grabs it from O’Sullivan, pulls it open, and reveals a letter, note, and passenger ticket. Crestfallen, he drops everything to the floor.
“Let’s see what you’re hiding, ex-partner?” says O’Sullivan. “You always liked to hide evidence in your bookcase. Shall we start there?”
You’d better solve this murder fast or you’re dead. As they say, follow the money and see who stands to gain the most from Mickey’s and Angelica’s deaths…
Open the bookcase.
To your surprise, Vinnie finds a packet of money stashed between books. But this money looks fake.
Determine which of the four $20 bills is real.
You found four $20 bills in the bookcase, and need to determine which $20 bill is real. Have you previously found something that will help you?
You found a counterfeit bill in the safe. It was known to have only three mistakes. How can you use this information to spot the real bill?
Remember that you previously learned that the counterfeit bill did have the number of digits in the serial number correct. Also, keep in mind that either side of the bill may contain errors.
The bill with serial number A 01234567 B is the real $20 bill, as it contains exactly three differences from the counterfeit bill. Enter the symbol on the back of this bill into the Solution Wheel.
Next to Angelica, you find pieces of a warehouse floor plan showing details about incoming shipments. To make it harder for the police to track them, crates of illegal goods are moved around to different parts of the port warehouse. The shipment from dock 3 seems particularly important.
Determine what illegal goods are associated with Dock 3.
You need to determine what illegal goods are associated with dock 3. Have you previously discovered any items that will help you assemble the puzzle? Does the grid pattern on the pieces look familiar?
Behind the corkboard, there is an outline of the warehouse floor. Build the nine piece puzzle on the back of the corkboard.
Examine the details of each piece carefully. The shapes of each piece will help solve the puzzle, but do you notice anything about the images on each piece?
The completed puzzle depicts people traveling from each of the four docks. The size of the crates they are transporting, and direction they are heading, are clues for how to assemble the puzzle. The completed puzzles shows that the person at dock 3 was transporting cigars. Enter this symbol into the Solution Wheel.
The final destination for the shipment from dock 3 is unclear. Five pieces in Angelica’s purse may give you more information. The only other clue seems to be a note that reads, “Arrow marks the spot.”
Determine where in the city the shipment from Dock 3 is being taken.
You need to determine where in the city the shipment from Dock 3 is being taken. How can you use the five pieces in Angelica’s purse to help you? Remember, “arrow marks the spot.”
Assemble the five piece puzzle. What image appears? What is it telling you?
The assembled pieces reveal a red arrow, with a yellow arrow pointing it towards the map. What could this mean? Have you seen a red arrow to place on the map?
The pattern on the red arrow appears on the back side of the five puzzle pieces. Use the other side of the five pieces to create the shape of an arrow. The small black lines on each piece will guide you to the correct arrangement. What should you do with the arrow?
Place the red arrow on the map on the desk, lining up the yellow line on the arrow with the yellow line on the map. Enter the symbol it points to into the Solution Wheel.
