“I thought you were above being bribed,” says O’Sullivan.
“It’s hardly a bribe,” you say. “All of those bills are counterfeit except for one.”
There’s a knock at the door. Luigi, O’Sullivan, and Vinnie quickly press up against the far wall out of sight as the door swings open.
It’s Rosa De Luca. She is a vision in her red dress. Visibly upset, she says, “Detective, I need your help. I lost the picture you gave me. I need another copy. I’m afraid if I don’t have it…” Her face goes ashen when she notices Luigi, O’Sullivan, and Vinnie off to the side. Then she sees Mickey. A mix of emotions cross her face, then she notices Angelica.
“Serves them both right.”
She turns away and opens her purse. As she removes something, Vinnie grabs it out of her hands. O’Sullivan moves in and roughly grabs the object from Vinnie. It’s a compact mirror.
“I thought it was a gun!” protests Vinnie.
“I was just going to fix my face,” says Rosa.
“Idiot.” O’Sullivan glares at Vinnie as he hands the mirror back to Rosa.
There’s got to be something you’re overlooking. Your office is a mess, there are footprints everywhere, probably fingerprints too. Surely the killer left some kind of trace.
Prove who the third person in your office was.
The suspects are all standing in front of you. Use the killer’s symbol to accuse, then read the text on the next page.
You need to prove who the third person in your office was. There are footprints everywhere, probably fingerprints too. Can you find them and use them to trace who killed Mickey?
There are fingerprints in six places throughout the office. Can you determine whose fingerprints are on each item?
There are fingerprints on the ring box from Mickey’s pocket, the floor (in blood), the bucket, Angelica’s purse, Rosa’s compact, and the window. Who touched each of these items? Which of these prints will identify the killer?
The killer must have come in through the window. Whose fingerprint is on the window?
You will not be able to identify the killer based on fingerprints alone. What other prints will give you information about who came in through the window?
Mickey’s fingerprint is on the ring box from his pocket. This fingerprint is also on the bucket. Luigi is the second person that touched the bucket. His finger print is also on Angelica’s purse. O’Sullivan fingerprint is on Angelica’s purse as well. He picked up the purse before Luigi grabbed it from him. O’Sullivans print is on Rosa’s compact, which he grabbed from Vinnie. The other two prints on Rosa’s compact are from Rosa and Vinnie, and one of these prints is also on the window. Thus, the fingerprints establish that Rosa or Vinnie killed Mickey.
Now it’s time to look at the footprints. The footprints that turn left from the office entrance are Mickey’s footprints. The footprints that go straight from the entrance are Angelica’s footprints. The footprints under the window and near the bookshelf match the shape of Vinnie’s shoes. Vinnie is the killer.
