“Mickey runs your moonshine liquor operation,” you say.
“I know nuthin’ ‘bout that,” says Luigi.
“What you also don’t know is that someone is skimming from the profits. I’ve got the accounting ledger to prove it.” And a number that’s somehow connected to Mickey, you think to yourself.
“Mickey was swindling me?” says Luigi. “I’m gonna kill him! By which I mean I’m gonna hafta kill whoever did kill him.” Luigi pauses. “Okay. You can get out. For now.”
You step out of the bucket, concrete dripping from your pants. As you do, the door to your office bursts open and an officer rushes in with his gun drawn. It’s your ex-partner, Officer O’Sullivan. He smiles as he takes in the situation.
“Is this a bad time?” O’Sullivan asks sarcastically.
Luigi glares at you.
“Just catching up,” you say. “Bit of a coincidence, you showing up here.”
“There was a call to the station about a woman screaming and a few gunshots. I came to check it out.” O’Sullivan nods at Mickey’s dead body, smirking. “Looks like I don’t need to ask about the gunshots. Now who will I be booking for Mickey’s murder? Isn’t that your gun on the floor?” O’Sullivan had plenty of reasons to want to kill Mickey. The call to the station was clearly a setup.
Maybe he made the call to the station himself so he could drop in just as Luigi finished you off, cart him in for you and Mickey’s murders, and get himself a promotion.
O’Sullivan retrieves your gun from the floor.
“No fingerprints. Smart.” He checks the chamber of the gun.
“Looks like you fired all six rounds.”
Your gun holds six bullets. When you flip Mickey over, you see four more bullet holes. Counting the one in his back, that leaves the sixth bullet unaccounted for. That’s when you notice the curious hole in the thick glass of the watercooler.
Inside at the bottom of the watercooler you can make out a bullet! You can still make out the shape of the bullet hole it made.
Determine what kind of gun it was fired from.
You need to determine what kind of gun the bullets were fired from. You have three discs with fragmented images on both sides. When the discs fit together, they create images on the front and back. How can these images help you determine the type of gun used?
The discs can form the image of two different guns. To choose the correct one, remember you can still make out the shape of the bullet hole on the water cooler. How will this shape help you identify the correct gun?
The correct gun is the one that makes the matching bullet hole shape on the other side.
Mickey has a list of people’s 5 digit account numbers in his pocket, and a ring with two gems and a peculiar five symbol inscription. You know that the skimmed funds are going into Illaria’s account. Maybe these items can help you figure out who is skimming the money.
You need to determine which person from Mickey’s list is skimming the money. Have you previously discovered any information that will be useful now?
You know the skimmed funds are going into Illaria’s account. Illaria’s account number, as listed on the family tree, is #06227. Remember, you know the local bank does not have account #s that start with zero. This account must be a code for one on Mickey’s list. How can you use the other items found on Mickey to decode this account?
Mickey has a list of 5 digit account numbers, and a ring. Study the ring’s design very carefully. What is the significance of its design?
The ring has two diamonds, and an inscription with arrows pointing “up, up, up, down, up.” Starting with the number, 06227, move the digits UP 2, UP 2, UP 2, DOWN 2, and UP 2, respectively. The resulting account number is 28409, which is Angelica’s account. Enter the symbol next to Angelica’s name into the Solution Wheel.
Mickey has notes from meeting with three local Mafia informants after they tailed a suspect. Apparently, Mickey knew someone was skimming from his bootleg liquor operation and that they had a partner. Mickey has narrowed the partner down to one of three people: Angelica, Vinnie, or Rosa. Mickey hired the informants to report the following info about who they observed:
Two of the informants are reliable and always tell the truth.
One of the informants was bribed by the partner to always lie.
Identify the partner.
You need to determine who the partner is based on information from the informants. Remember, two informants always tell the truth, while one always lies. Is there any conflicting information that can help you deduce who is lying?
One informant said the partner had a scar on their hand, while one said they did not. Both of these things can’t be true. One of these two informants is lying.
One informant said the partner had a tattoo, while one said they did not. Both of these things can’t be true. One of these two informants is lying.
One informant said they saw the partner drinking coffee, while one said they saw the partner drinking tea. Is one of these informants lying?
The partner was seen drinking coffee and tea at different times during the day. Both informants who observed the partner drinking a beverage could be telling the truth. The informant who observed the partner at 11:00 am is lying. Vinnie is the partner. Enter his symbol into the Solution Wheel.
